Uncharted 2 cutscenes

Some cutscenes..keep in mind that the graphics are generated by the PS3 in real time. Amazing…

Pay attention to their movements. Plus with the music and everything, it’s really like a movie. If you want to watch the rest that youtube user has them. :p

Uncharted behind the scenes

I was watching a few behind the scenes footage from Uncharted and it struck me that it was like watching the making of a movie and not a game. Naughty Dog has been gaining a lot of attention from the way they make their voice actors give life into the characters they’re portraying…not by sticking them into a studio to record their lines, but actually physically acting them out.

You might think that game developers would have done this before but surprisingly Uncharted is the first. Instead of slapping a motion capture suit onto some random person and getting a voice actor into the studio to read lines, ND properly casts each motion capture actor. As in the character doing the motion capture is the same person doing the voice. And not only that, they don’t record their voices in the studio at all..they record it as they’re acting out scenes from the game. Something which I’ve never heard being done before. In the behind the scenes from the first Uncharted, you can see the actors acting in actual sets while their movement and voices are being recorded at the same time.

I find it so fascinating cause it really does make such a difference. For example, the main guy Nolan North not only voices Nathan Drake, he is Nathan Drake. How he walks, how he punches, how he holds a gun…right down to Nathan Drake’s personality. He said in an interview that his wife commented on how it was like seeing an exact video game version of him that whenever she was mad at him she would turn the PS3 on and make him jump off a cliff (haha). The fact that the actors are required to put their own personality into the characters and are even encouraged to ad-lib their lines…you just never hear these sort of things happening in games. It’s interesting to know that the witty and hilarious remarks in the game weren’t from the script but from the actors themselves. :D

Rehearsals (Nolan North is funny lol):

Meet the actors, you can see the comparisons of the actors with their characters:

Casting and audition process:

I’m just totally floored by Naughty Dog’s work. You guys should all go and watch some Uncharted 2 cutscenes…totally amazing. I’ll post them up next time maybe. :)

(Not that anyone is interested. Ignore me, I’m in my Uncharted 2 phase)

OMG OMG

Just finished Uncharted 2 yesterday. Have to say that the game is truly amazing….sure it has its flaws but the whole experience was like playing a Hollywood movie. Set pieces where amazing. The way they keep cutting from cut scenes to gameplay is so natural…and you have to deal with enemies in different conditions (on a train, moving cars, etc etc). Of course, the best thing about the game are the characters and voice acting…I don’t think any other game can top that.

If anyone’s interested, here’s the ending of the game. Ok no…you HAVE to see the ending. It encapsulates the epicness of the voice acting and dialogue. The characters are hilarious lol. Throughout the ending I was like OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Haha. :p They just make you care about the characters. Make sure to catch the last minute or so…Naughty Dog really knows how to end a game.

Other stuff:
- Claudia Black who plays Chloe does a really awesome job…along with the rest of the old cast.
- The game is GORGEOUS. Seriously. Best looking game I’ve ever seen. You have to see it in its fully HD glory…Many times I found myself stopping and moving the camera around just to admire the scenery.
- If you can please play it…it ends with you having a warm fuzzy feeling in your tummy. :)

I can’t stop watching this

I know I’m on a video game blogging overload…but this is just too funny to not post! In the Uncharted 2 demo, there is a Machinima mode where you can record your character doing stuff and changing the camera angles and etc…here’s what someone put together using that mode.

Best single player game ever?

Well, according to G4TV. This is one of the many incoming reviews for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I shouldn’t have watched this, now I’m getting even more impatient!

So far metacritic (official scoring site) has this game at 98%, which is on par with GTA IV and a step below only one game (Zelda). We’ll see if it maintains that spot when more critics submit their reviews. I so can’t wait for this game! ^^

Holy moly the hair

Here’s the TGS trailer for the new Japanese drama Final Fantasy game:

Not sure if you have to watch it in HD to see it but wowzers…the hair! How realistic!

Day 1 purchase. (and no I’m not buying it for the hair)

Omg Nathan’s voice!

Thank god I’m gonna be playing the English version of Uncharted.

Damn you Japanese dubs…damn you! Kusooo!

Kitty got wet

I’m not gonna lie. I absolutely CANNOT wait for Uncharted 2 to come out! Yesterday, while I was playing the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo, my character killed someone and muttered “Kitty got wet”. I totally had a fangirl moment there. Here’s a video of the Uncharted cast explaining where the phrase came from:

The game’s release date is still a month away but reviews are starting to come out. The majority of them are full scores, one magazine actually gave it a 21/20. No lie. I don’t even know how that’s logically possible. And reading all these reviews is making me more and more impatient! Ah well, at least I have the multiplayer to keep me busy…in the meantime I’m just gonna play that and chill to these beautiful Uncharted 2 OST tracks:

Sigh…I need a job.

Haha

For the past few days, I’ve been checking me email every second to see if my Uncharted 2 multiplayer code had arrived. I preordered my copy of the game from Play.com earlier this week and I still hadn’t received my code to access the multiplayer section. I was so desperate for it, I actually called up Play which drained my phone credit.

Well, my code arrived minutes ago! But instead of being absolutely elated, I’m left here laughing to myself. Why?

Because we don’t have any bloody electricity! The whole block is out and they’re not sure what’s wrong. They’re even drilling outside for some reason to check. I may be laughing now, but when I return later with still no electricity, I’m going to be very grumpy!

K, gotta go. I can’t believe I typed all this on the iPhone…

One more day

Sissy:

“Why are there so many bats in this game?”

“Why does batman have two pointy ears? He’s not a bat!”

“I don’t get it.”

One more day till Sissy’s dissertation deadline. Till then I’m staying in my room. 8O
